DJI Air 2s - the easiest drone for great video
The DJi Air 2s is a special device, it's basically better than its big brother, the Mavic 2 Pro. The slightly more expensive Mavic Air 2 is a bigger upgrade than the mere addition of the letter s to the model number suggests.
The redesigned Air 2s offers the features of a flagship headset in the mid-range price segment. The DJI Air 2s is a compact size with folding wings, and a very high quality camera. Able to capture stunning cinematic videos whenever the mood strikes, the chopper is ideal for travellers or advanced photography enthusiasts when unique perspectives are desired. Flying is easy with the DJi Fly app. You simply point your phone at the controller that comes with it. Thanks to the Air 2s 3-axis gimbal, four antennas and OcuSync 3.0 technology, you can capture stable live footage from a helicopter up to 12 kilometres away (although legislation prevents such flying but in theory anyway).
The result is quite stunning as the 1″ CMOS sensor and 22mm cinema wide-angle works you 8K hyperlapse, 5.4K video, and up to 240 frame slow motion in FullHD video. The sensor is made by Sony, the same as in the Mavic 2 Pro. All images, panoramas and videos can be shot in HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode, providing better dynamic range to the image.
The MasterShot function basically automatically performs a cinematic three-angle (Proximity, Landscape, or Portrait) video drive. The Air 2S allows you to create videos from ready-made bases with the touch of a few buttons.
Active Track lets you select a target that the drone will follow on its own. The Spotlight function keeps the target in the centre of the screen while you control the drone. Point of Interest, or POI 3.0, rotates around the target, keeping the target on the screen.
With Active Tracking 4.0 and APAS 4.0, familiar from the more advanced new helicopters, you can track your target in more challenging environments. The system recognises obstacles and people and knows how to avoid them. The RTH (Return to home) feature allows you to safely return the helicopter to its starting point.
With a large battery, you can fly for up to 34 minutes at a time. The helicopter can reach a maximum speed of 68km/h and the pilot has a range of about 10 kilometres. The DJI Mavic Air 2 also supports Ocusync 2.0 technology, so you can connect it to the For DJI Smart Controller.
From QuickShot Modes you can choose either Rocket, Circle, Dronie, Helix, Boomerang, or Asteroid to create professional-quality aerial video manoeuvres.
Hyperlapse modes
- Circle: fly around the target and create a timelapse video
- Course Lock: Locks on target, flies in a straight line while the gimbal follows the target, keeping it in the centre of the screen
- Waypoint: Select a flight path with 5 points, the helicopter will automatically fly between the points and make a timelapse video. The altitude distance and gimbal angle of each point can be adjusted.
- Free: In this mode you get a free hand
Identification of obstacles. The copter sniffs out obstacles around it with frighteningly good accuracy, preventing damage from happening. The Air 2s drone is equipped with sensors in every direction, and these, combined with APAS 4.0 technology, do a great job of avoiding obstacles in open terrain and in niches such as when flying through trees.
AirSense warn pilots of approaching aircraft and helicopters transmitting ADS-B signals.
GEO 2.0 make use of geofencing technology.
FPV gimbal style. While flying itself is a stomach-tickling experience, with the optional FPV (First Person View) glasses you can see the image directly from the camera as if you were actually in the helicopter.
