Fujifilm X-H2S - perfect for APS-C video and fast-paced situations
The Fujifilm X-H2S balances video and stills superbly, the new X-Trans sensor, refined AF and subject detection combined with stunning 6.2K video make this machine a dream multimedia device. The camera is stunningly intuitive to use and its design and image quality are the best X fuji you can expect.
Stacked cell and 64-bit processing. The X-Trans 5 Stacked BSI sensor is blazing fast, with 26.1 megapixels at a maximum of 40 frames per second without blacking out the viewfinder, it's a bloodcurdling experience. The shutter speed and blur performance are truly staggering compared to previous generations. And because it's a typically and uniquely Fuji X-trans sensor, moiré and other nasties are kept nicely in check, and colours are truly stunning. The stacked cell design reduces the rolling shutter effect to 5 milliseconds (F-log 1) which is so minimal it's impossible to see. And the shutter speed naturally helps the stills not only in terms of pacing, but also so that, for example, a football doesn't ovalise in the pictures.
X-Processor 5 uses 64-bit processing and is 3x faster than the processor in the X-T4. On the video side, this allows recording up to 6.2K resolution and high bit rates such as ProRes 422 HQ or 240 fps FullHD recording.
On the stills side, fast processing means a fast shutter, up to 40 frames per second. The buffer for this is up to 140 consecutive uncompressed RAW frames. With a mechanical shutter you get a staggering 15 frames per second, and then you can pull 1000 raw frames in a single burst.
For mixed video and stills, the processing power of the AI background autofocus system, 14 aperture dynamics and an ISO range of between ISO 160-12800 are all useful.
Great 4K 120p and 6.2K 30p video capabilities. The X-H2 was born for video projects, but is also the dark prince of the stills world, which is why it can be considered a true hybrid camera. The built-in 4:2:2 10-bit recording in DCI/UHD 4K up to 120p as well as FullHD 240p and OPEN-GATE 3:2 6.2K (for real anamorphic lenses) formats is quite a feat. H.265 and three levels of ProRess in HT, standard and LT modes. Huh huh. 90 minutes of footage with all options. It's not up to the production camera.
And if all that wasn't enough, the thing pushes RAW video out of a full-size HDMI port as an Apple Pro Ress AS WELL AS a Blackmagik Braw.
The icing on the cake is the new F-log 2 profile that pulls 14 apertures of dynamic range into the video.
Hybrid AF with Deep Learning AI. I'm not going to lie, autofocus is where you're a bit behind the others. Not any more, now we're on par with others in autofocus. Sensitivity is up to -7 EV and there are 425 points, plus the AI detects everything from eyes to animals to vehicles.
In-Body Image Stabilization i.e. IBIS works in 5 axes and stabilizes the image UP TO 7 OPENINGS. A steady handed guy can take sharp handheld shots with, for example, a 2 second exposure.
Frame is similar to the classic X-H1 or GFX 100S so that there are no traditional scrolls for the different functions and there is a nice display on top where you can see the settings nicely. The background display is a 3" 1.62 million dot touchscreen that rotates in all directions. Very intuitive to use.
Double memory card slots is the model UHS-II SD and the super fast CFexpress Type B. The best video modes require the latter because they really move stuff.
The battery is, for example, the NP-W235 from the X-T4, which gives you (CIPA value) about 720 frames.
As for connectivity, the previously mentioned full-size HDMI cable is of course worth mentioning, but the USB port has also been updated, and is now the faster version of the USB-C port. That's USB 3.2 Gen2.
The headphone jack is standard without adapters.
The film simulations have been enhanced with the stunning Nostalgic Negative from the GFX series.
