The Samyang MF 85mm f/1.4 Nikon Z is an affordable telephoto lens for Nikon's Z-bayonet system cameras.The 85mm is the perfect focal length for portrait photography, it won't distort faces one way or the other and works on the move. This combined with a fast f/1.4 aperture that produces a really pleasing reproduction of the out-of-focus area aka. bokeh, are the ingredients this lens is made of. The 85mm Samy is a fully manual lens with an aperture ring, but new mirrorless cameras like Nikon's Z series and Canon's RF series get the exposure just right without any "unnecessary" electronics. Manual focusing is also a piece of cake with focus assistants, even with a lens with this really narrow depth of field. So there's no need to worry about this, although no one's hands will be able to follow a moving target very reliably, so for that job we still recommend autofocus lenses. The optical construction consists of 9 elements in 7 groups and includes one special element to keep chromatic aberrations under control. The glass draws nicely even at full aperture. Mechanically, the glass is the familiar Samyang quality metal construction and the lens is also weather sealed.
