Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary - Finally a Sigma lens for Canon's RF system

Sigma opens its lens range with a safe and reliable workhorse familiar to Canon's RF bayonet: the 18-50mm f/2.8. Already proven on Sony and Fuji systems, the DG DN Contemporary version offers a reasonable 29-80mm cinema equivalent focal length in a very compact size with a fixed f/2.8 aperture. A zoom lens of this level is not yet available as a native lens for the body cameras of Canon's RF system, which makes it a very attractive option for Canon and others. R7, R10 and R50 -for those shooting with cameras.

The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DG DN is quite handy for street, landscape or architectural photography. The lens offers excellent performance, functionality and build quality, considering its affordable price.

The lens shows a nice bokeh despite the typical f/2.8 maximum aperture of zoom lenses. However, the aperture remains the same throughout the zoom range. Optical aberrations are kept well under control because the optical formula of the lens uses precision-moulded aspherical glass elements, interspersed with a single SLD (special low dispersion) element. Fast and accurate autofocusing is achieved by a stepper motor. The dust and splash resistant construction is a surprising addition for a device in this price range and you can easily go into almost any shooting environment.

The close focusing distance is a very smart 12.1 centimetres, not a macro, but a magnification of 0.36X.
