The Sigma USB dock acts as an interface between the lens and the Sigma Optimization Pro application. So if you want to connect the lens to your computer and use Sigma software you need this device to connect the lens to your computer.

For example, Sigma Optimization Pro software can be used to update the lens firmware and fine-tune the features of the lens. Fine-tuning includes adjusting the focus distance and speed, changing the image stabilizer function or the limits of the focus limiters. (Note! Feature adjustments are lens specific, so don't be alarmed if your lens does not have all the listed adjustments.) Some lens models also allow you to store settings in the lens and adjust the manual override (MO) sensitivity.

Sigma Optimization Pro software can be downloaded From the Sigma website. It can be downloaded for Windows and Mac operating systems.

Lens compatibility:

The Sigma USB dock UD01 is compatible with all lenses in the Contemporary, Art and Sport series and of course with all lenses to be released in the future. Some lenses may require a firmware update before other features can be used. This particular product is only suitable for Canon EF/EF-S bayonet Sigma lenses, but the device is of course also available for Nikon version.
