Sony a1 II - the most versatile camera

The Sony a1 II is their most versatile camera, offering the best blend of speed, video capacity, high-resolution still images and a professionally durable body. It combines the versatile features of the original a1 with the body of the a9 III and adds the AF and IBIS technologies introduced in the a7R V. The camera is aimed at working professionals, whether they are sports, editorial, product, fashion or advertising photographers, and is equally appealing to landscape, portrait, wedding and event photographers. As well as being an excellent stills camera, it also has the video tools typical of the a1 series, including 8K recording and the useful stabilisation and framing assistants borrowed from the ZV series.

Updated features and functionality

The original a1 was a significant camera in Sony's portfolio, combining cutting-edge photography and video capture features in one powerful camera body. With the second version, these key features have been further enhanced, benefiting the professional hybrid photographer even more.

Autofocus and subject tracking

The A1 II's focusing system has received significant upgrades from its predecessor, now with an AI processor and refined subject detection and tracking. The phase-difference AF system still consists of 759 points covering approximately 92% of sensor area, supporting focusing down to -4 EV at f/2. Subject tracking and subject detection has also been improved, in particular how the camera is 30% faster at detecting human eyes and 50% faster at detecting animal eyes.

Video features

The specifications of the original a1 video were ahead of their time and in many ways still are. The A1 II retains many of the core resolutions and frame rates, but refines the video recording capabilities by adding supporting modes and features, including access to Dynamic Area Stabilization and support for true 24.00 frame rates for a cinematic look and timecode input with an optional adapter.

Professional frame and connectivity

The A1 series has always been Sony's top of the range model, and as such has been one of the most durable and sophisticated physical models in the system. However, the A1 II gets a bit of an upgrade to bring it in line with the a9 III in terms of button placement, screen and EVF implementation, and durability.

Multifunctional and durable design

The A1 II gets Sony's latest mirrorless camera body, first seen on the a9 III, which includes a C5 shutter button on the front of the camera and an improved grip.

Tru-Finder EVF and tilting touch screen

The impressive QXGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF offers an ultra-high 9.44m-point resolution and 0.9x magnification for ultra-bright, clear and detailed eye-level viewing.

Sony has continued to improve the workflow of its professional cameras with updated and additional features.

Composite photo booths

By taking multiple images and combining them in post-production, users can achieve image quality and resolution not possible with core sensor technology alone. The A1 II offers two different options for composite imaging.
