The Sony Alpha A7R III proves that speed, resolution, and video capabilities can be in the same body. The A7R III mirrorless system camera from Sony is a multi-purpose powerhouse. The 42.4 megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor and upgraded Bionz X processor enable a staggering 10 frames per second shooting speed with enhanced autofocus.

Faster and more reliable target tracking with a wide field of view. The upgraded hybrid AF system uses 399 phase detection points and 425 contrast detection points for faster focusing, even in challenging lighting conditions, and keeps the subject in focus more reliably. In addition to speed and autofocus, the A7R III has been given more advanced processes for sharper images across the entire sensitivity range. The sensitivity range can be extended from ISO 100-32000 up to ISO 50-102400. Video recording capabilities have also been improved. The image is recorded over the entire area of the cell without pixel dropout , or using Super35 area and 5k over-recording to reduce moiré and jaggies. On top of all this, both still and video sides benefit from improved 5-axis image stabilisation, which can now achieve up to 5.5 aperture stabilisation.

In addition to the advances on the imaging side, the Sony Alpha a7r III has also been redesigned, with a 3.69 million pixel Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder that is bright, sharp and realistic. The 3-inch 1.44 million dot tilting screen on the back is now a touch model, making top and bottom shooting a snap. Two card slots and a larger Sony a9 familiar from the model NP-FZ100 battery has also been deployed.

To allow the camera to be used boldly in harsh conditions, the magnesium alloy body is equipped with extensive weather protection, making it dust and moisture resistant. 42.4 megapixel Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor The Sony Alpha a7r III backlit sensor is a so-called 35mm ”full cell”, working with the Bionz X processor to minimise noise and improve speed, regardless of the high resolution. The design of the sensor is direct and features an anti-reflection coating. In addition, a low-pass filter has been omitted to improve light gathering and detail definition.The copper wire layer dramatically improves data transfer, and is necessary for large 42.4 megapixel 14-bit files. The sensor allows internal UHD 4k video recording with wide dynamic response and the image is recorded over the entire area of the sensor.

A7R III 2021 Q2 update

Sony A7R III and A7R IV models were upgraded to the newer A models. The biggest upgrade was the rear display, which is now almost twice as sharp.
