The Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD is a flexible lens with a focal length to suit many situations and uses. The optical formula of the lens is based on three low dispersion elements that keep chromatic aberrations and chromatic aberrations at bay. In addition, the eBand coating on the different elements reduces reflections and haze in the lens, increasing contrast and brightness. Complementing the optical design is a fast Ultrasonic Silent Drive focusing system that benefits from two processors that make focusing fast and responsive. Vibration Compensation minimises blur caused by camera movement when shooting handheld. The lens is suitable for outdoor use thanks to its magnesium alloy body and weather protection.

The Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD is a high-quality full-frame lens that, despite its impressive focal length, weighs just under half the weight of Tamron's popular 150-600mm G2 lens - 1115 grams to be exact. The lens can also easily be used on APS-C cameras, with an angle of view of around 150-600mm.

The lens housing is made of metal, and finished with weatherproof rubber seals to keep out moisture and dust. The sleek, yet rugged design is suitable for a wide range of conditions. The front lens is fluorite coated to prevent scratching and effectively repels dirt and grease, and is easy to clean.

Dual processors for maximum performance

Like Tamron's latest premium zoom lenses, the Tamron 100-400mm f/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD features two microprocessors to ensure maximum performance for autofocus and VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilisation, which stabilises images taken with the lens by up to 4 apertures and is ideal for handheld shooting.

When shooting requires a tripod, an Arca-Swiss compatible tripod mount is available as an option for the lens.

The closest focusing distance of the lens is 1.5 m at all focal lengths, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.6.A focus limiter can be used to ensure that the lens is optimised for longer distances, a useful feature for shooting fast-paced activities such as sports.The optical construction consists of 17 elements divided into 11 groups. Three of the elements are made of LD (Low Dispersion) glass to combat chromatic aberration, while Tamron's eBAND and BBAR reflective coatings ensure maximum image contrast by minimising ghosting and reflections.

For a longer focal length, the Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD can be used with the Tamron TC-X14 1.4x telephoto lens, which offers a focal length range of up to 140-560mm.

The Tamron 100-400mm F/4.5-6.3 Di VC USD is compatible with the Tamron Tap-In console, which allows you to update the lens software or fine-tune focus and image stabilisation, for example.
