The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM is a wider zoom for the APS-C EF-S bayonet, which is equivalent to the 16-28.8mm focal length of cinema glass. It is a versatile lens in a compact package. The size has been reduced without compromising optical quality with a four group zoom with 1 ultra-low dispersion element, 1 aspherical element, and 1 wide aperture element. The image quality is excellent. Lens placement is exemplary and the surfaces are coated to reduce reflections and flare. Super Spectra coating reduces reflection and haze. Colour contrasts are good and colours are neutral.

Taking pictures is made much easier by the optical image stabilisation, which helps up to 4 apertures. The STM stepper motor focuses quickly and smoothly, and quite quietly at that. It's also great for video. If you really want to get serious with your adjustments, manual focus is your friend.
