The X-M5 is the first X-M camera in more than a decade. It features the same 26.1 MP X-Trans 4 CMOS sensor as the popular X100V and the same X-Processor 5 processor as the X100VI. The sensor is more than 16 times larger than the average smartphone, so it captures light better, producing richer colours, more detail and better low-light performance. The sensor design incorporates a random pixel arrangement that mimics the organic nature of film, producing subtle colours and transitions while reducing digital artefacts. The larger APS-C sensor creates a shallower depth of field, enabling deeper background blur and subject separation.

Designed to meet the full spectrum of modern content production, the X-M5 excels in both audio and video recording. The camera features three built-in microphones and four audio recording modes - Surround, Front Priority, Back Priority and Front & Back Priority - that optimise sound capture for specific situations. A 3.5mm microphone jack allows for greater control of the soundscape, while new in-camera algorithms allow for both sound enhancement and ambient noise reduction.

Capable of delivering open-port 6.2K video at up to 29.97 fps, the X-M5 can use every pixel of the 3:2 native aspect ratio sensor to produce high-quality video. The camera combines this high image quality with a range of self-recorded features, most of which are easily accessible in the camera's Vlog mode.

In addition, a clear red outline appears around the screen when the camera is recording. The X-M5 further enhances the video shooting experience with X-Processor 5's AI-assisted autofocus, which includes eye tracking and subject detection. Two Log modes for colour adjustment simplify the post-processing process, and the camera's various video speeds and frame rates include slow-motion video at 60 fps in 4K and up to 240 fps in Full HD.

FUJIFILM, renowned for its colour science, has equipped the X-M5 with 20 film simulation modes that mimic the look and feel of many of the company's renowned film styles. The camera's true-to-life results can be interpreted using these film simulations, eight of which are available on one of the camera's top controls. Facilities can simplify workflows by producing pre-edited footage directly from the camera.

In addition, a Grain Effect mode is available that mimics the organic texture of old film images. Color Chrome and Color Chrome Blue effects are also available to deepen colour, hue and saturation in high saturation colours.

The X-M5 is the smallest and lightest body in the X series, weighing just 355 grams without lens and measuring 11.2 cm wide. In keeping with FUJIFILM's aesthetic and X-series design philosophy, the silver-coloured viewfinder-style body is equipped with a series of top controls for setting mode, movie simulation and adjusting settings. An interchangeable lens mount accepts all lenses over 35 X-series, and other lenses can be attached with a suitable, optional adapter.

The camera has a 3″ rotating LCD touchscreen, optimised for selfies. Anticipating the needs of creators, FUJIFILM has moved the location of the connection ports to the right side of the camera, so that wires do not interfere with the monitor. The microphone socket has also been moved from the side of the camera to the back to better accommodate content creation accessories.

Integrated Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity allows wireless sharing of images to a mobile device or use of the device for remote camera control
