Fujifilm X100V - Too beautiful for this world
Since their release in 2011, Fujifilm's iconic X100 series of premium compact cameras with metering style have been highly regarded by discerning photographers who want a smaller alternative to SLRs without compromising on image quality, and the new Fujifilm X100V is now the fifth in the series. There are more improvements and upgrades than ever. In addition to the latest generation image sensor (X-Trans CMOS 4) and processor (X-Processor 4), the camera features a new lens, improved hybrid sensor, tilting screen, weather protection* and a completely new design and refined processing. The new X100V is an easy-to-use, sophisticated camera that's equally at home on location or taking everyday photos with its incredible image quality and compact design, and it always goes with you, ready to capture the moments that matter.
* With adapter ring AR-X100 and protection filter PRF-49
New design and refined processing
The new design of the Fujifilm X100V is reflected in a straighter profile than previous models, and the new aluminium top and bottom plates have been given a special surface treatment (aluminite) for a smooth finish. Thanks to the AR-X100 adapter ring and the protective filter (PRF-49), the X100 series is for the first time weatherproof - a long-awaited feature. Improvements have been made to the camera's grip and a new lock function has been added to the ISO adjustment wheel, which stops the wheel in the open position and allows faster ISO changes. The camera's rear LCD screen has been equipped with a touch function and can now be tilted without affecting the camera's design and size.
Advanced hybrid ethernet for all situations
As in previous X-series models, the viewfinder mode can be switched between optical and electronic. The optical viewfinder produces an image of the subject without delay, while the electronic viewfinder allows you to adjust exposure and colour while taking photos. The optical viewfinder provides a parallax-corrected image frame, which now covers 95 % of the final image ((92 % in the X100F). The camera's new hybrid lens uses a high-resolution (3,690,000 dots) OLED panel, luminosity and contrast to produce a high range of detail in both dark and bright parts of the image. The ”electronic metering sensor” function, with a small window in the bottom corner of the optical viewfinder, has previously allowed the user to adjust exposure, colour and focus, among other things. The X100V now also offers the possibility to display the last image taken at the moment of capture.
New lens harnesses the power of X-Trans CMOS 4
The X100V features a completely new design with two aspherical lens elements, and makes a significant difference with higher resolution and lower distortion than before. The focal length is still 23mm (equivalent to 35mm) with a maximum aperture of f/2 and a built-in ND filter (four stops) and centre shutter. The new lens is compatible with a number of accessories including an adapter ring, backlight protector, wide-angle and teleconverter.
The X100V, like the previously launched X-T3, X-T30 and X-Pro3, features a completely redesigned back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 4 (26.1 MP) image sensor, including phase-detection AF pixels across the entire sensor surface, and a three times faster X-Processor 4. This combination with an improved algorithm enables the camera's phase-detection autofocus to work in extremely dark conditions down to -5 EV. A new function for limiting the AF area allows you to choose between two preset distances or use the focus ring to select an optional focus area. The camera's multi-exposure mode works with up to nine images, which can be combined in a variety of settings: increase, average, bright or dark.
Fujifilm's popular film simulations such as PROVIA, Velvia, ASTIA, Classic Chrome and ACROS are also available on the new FUJIFILM X100V. The film simulations build on Fujifilm's 85-year heritage of photographic film development. The X100V is now the second camera in the X-series to feature the new film simulation CLASSIC Neg. It simulates a traditional colour negative, where colours are adjusted very precisely for each light level. This results in images with contrasting colour shifts for a unique look and depth of field. Another new feature is the Brightness control, which complements the existing image controls for shadow, highlights and sharpness, and illuminates or highlights parts of the image without changing the colours and the overall picture. In addition, the setting that controls the graininess of the image is even more precise and the image effect Color Chrome Blue creates a very deep and natural saturation of the blue tones in the image.
More than just a still camera
The X100V records 4K/30p or high-speed video in Full-HD at up to 120fps and when connected to an external recording device, it is possible to record 4:2:2 at 10-bit speed. Film simulation ETERNA, which is fast becoming a favourite with videographers, is also available on the X-100V. The film simulation is based on the analogue film ETERNA, which has long been popular in the film industry. Headphones can be connected to the camera via a USB connection (adapter required) for listening during recording. A zebra pattern for highlight adjustment and video recording with the F-log colour adjustment profile are also available on the new Fujifilm X100V.
