Panasonic Lumix GH7 - stunning video capabilities in a small body
The Lumix GH7 is designed to capture high-quality images and sound. The camera's 25.2 MP BSI CMOS sensor supports a dynamic range of 13 stops, resulting in outstanding image quality. The sensor readout speed of the GH7 is very fast, capable of up to 75 fps ”burst” shooting and at best 240 fps slow motion video. The fast sensor also ensures minimal ”rolling shutter” distortion. A powerful 5-axis internal image stabilizer allows shutter speeds up to 7.5 stops longer without making the image appear jittery.
What Panasonic's GH series has long been known for, the video capabilities, don't disappoint this time either. 5.7K 30p resolution can be recorded in high quality using Apple ProRes 422HQ/ProRes 422 and ProRes RAW codecs. This allows for extensive post-processing enhancements to the footage. ProRes 422HQ and ProRes422 are also supported at DCI 4K and FHD resolutions up to 60p. Slow-motion shooting is at its best at 4K 120fps or 1080p 240fps and autofocus also works for high frame rate video up to 200fps. Thanks to the body's active cooling solution, there are no clip length restrictions in video recording.
The body of the GH7 is very similar to the already proven GH6. With ergonomics in mind, the body is also weatherproofed, not forgetting the optimisation of the menus for quick use. The camera has two card slots: CFexpress Type B yes SD -for cards. Video and photo storage directly to an external SSD is also possible via the camera's USB-C port.
Improvements over the previous GH6 model
- Built-in Apple ProRes RAW recording for the best possible video quality and editability for post-production
- 32-bit audio recording with DMW-XLR2 adapter, so you don't have to worry about clipping audio levels
- The camera's 25.2 MP BSI CMOS sensor now supports 13 stops of dynamic range (same level as Lumix G9 II)
- Improved automatic detection (Phase Detection system) now with continuous detection of people/animals/cars/motorcycles/trains/airplanes
- Open Gate imaging with full sensor 4:3 aspect ratio (5.8K 30p 4:2:0 10-bit or 4.4.K 60P 4:2:0 10-bit resolutions), from which you can easily crop the aspect ratio afterwards for your own use, e.g. for somevideo.
