Shimoda Designs Explore v2 25 Starter Kit - Green - Like the F-stop but better, green and slightly smaller version

The Shimoda is everything that F-Stop was promising, but with the availability to match, the Shimoda Explore v2 25 Starter Kit is the pinnacle of this type of backpack. The similarity is very understandable when you consider that the designer is the same as in the F-Stop originals. The spacious main compartment is equipped with a convertible storage system that fits nicely into a Fuji X-T4 or Sony a7 series, but easily fits an old-fashioned Canon 5D. The backpack is a multi-purpose tool for a wide range of purposes and is suitable for photographers and more versatile content creators alike, not forgetting hikers.

The main compartment is accessed through a back-facing zippered opening that opens 180°. Two additional openings, one on the top and one on the side, are easily accessible. When you turn the backpack to face you and place it in a horizontal position, you can easily access the side pocket without having to lower the backpack to the ground.

The front panel opens up to reveal several pockets for organization, with capacities for hard drives, smart devices, pens, maps, etc. The inside of the top opening also serves as a pocket for items you need quick access to such as batteries, filters, etc. The back panel has an integrated 13″ laptop pocket. The shoulder straps have pockets for frequently used items. The pocket on the left side expands to hold a lunch or a water bottle for example.

The bag can be carried by the handles that are all around the bag, or by the traditional straps on the shoulders. For heavier loads it is recommended to use a detachable waist strap. The document pocket can be accessed from several directions. The hidden and protected inside pocket is ideal for passports and other important stuff. The side handles also serve as a holder if you want to attach the backpack to the handle of your suitcase.

The outer surface has 12 different attachment points for accessories. Two quick pockets on the sides to accommodate filters, including square filters up to 100mm.

A proper backpack would be nothing without a water bottle, you get an optional 3 litre unit that sits in the front panel. The hose passage is nicely integrated to run directly into the shoulder straps.

The lightweight structured and water-repellent durable nylon shell is treated for good water and wear resistance, with a carbonate ether polyurethane coating. Lockable water-repellent YKK zippers add security and protection.

The bottom of the envelope is a sturdy self-supporting lightly padded part that remains upright when placed on the ground. The bottom panel has two vents to prevent condensation.

The lightweight rain cover travels in its own bag and is easy to deploy in the event of rain.

The straps and back are designed to be ventilated, meaning air circulates comfortably through the ribbed EVA foam and mesh fabric. The shoulder straps are interchangeable and all attachment points are adjustable. The carrying of the backpack is therefore fully customisable to suit the wearer.

This package comes with a Small Mirrorless Core Unit which can accommodate a mirrorless camera or a DSLR with a maximum height of 12cm and lenses up to 70-200mm f/2.8.

The SMCU comes inside your backpack to protect your equipment and provide quick access to your gear. The Core Unit's short depth allows for more efficient packing and keeps the backpack's profile streamlined. When mounted sideways you can access your rig from the side with the Explore v2 30 backpack.

EVA foam laminated space dividers protect equipment and prevent them from hitting each other.

The interior is bright, but not garish, blue, making it easier to see the instruments in low light.
