The lens body is all-metal, right down to the lens hood, and is made up of 13 elements in 11 groups. Despite this, the weight is very moderate at 365 grams. The lens has 9 rounded dimmer blades for a soft and pleasant background. The construction features two SLD elements, one FLD element and two very precisely compressed elements, which have allowed the number of lens elements to be reduced and the weight to be lowered. The lens has an integrated stepper motor that responds very quickly, making autofocusing fast and smooth. The lens has both automatic and manual focus.
