Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art - Sigma makes history
The Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art is the first 35mm lens with an autofocus f/1.2 aperture for cinema systems. For the first time there is also a 1.2 aperture from Sigma. What's also historic (if not so significant) is that this is the first Sigma lens designed specifically for cinema mirrorless. Up to this point, lenses with a fixed adaptor have been the norm. The hunt for perfect image quality continues, the size has been optimised for the best and with nothing to compare it's safe to say that this is the smallest 35mm f/1.2 autofocus lens. The aperture allows for better than usual depth of field control and working in the dark. Three low dispersion glass elements and three aspherical elements, one of which is bipolar, effectively post aberrations in every direction. Sharp and precise results.
Image quality is of course important but the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art is also fast and quiet thanks to its Hyper Sonic Motor, with full manual focus override. The aperture ring's de-click switch reduces noise even further when you turn the aperture control ”clicks” off. There's also an Autofocus-Lock (AFL) button on the body of the lens that you can program into your preferred function.Plus, an eleven leaf rounded dimmer makes the bokeh look pleasing.
Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art is part of the Sigman Global Vision series, more commonly known as the Art series. The lenses in this series are renowned for their superior optical performance without sacrificing a little extra weight. So your artistic vision is not dependent on the performance of the lens.
If this seems too big, you can always consider whether the depth of field is the most important thing, or whether it's a nice tool to have in your hand, check out the Sony 35mm f/1.8 FE.
Key features:
- The glass is also suitable for APS-C cameras, where the focal length is equivalent to 53mm glass in relation to the focal length of the lens.
- The lens has a maximum aperture of f/2.8, which is ideal for working in the dark or for controlling depth of field.
- Three low-dispersion glass elements and three aspherical elements, one of which is bipolar
- The large HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) autofocus motor is fast and quiet. HSM allows manual override at any time
- Manual aperture release can be ”de-clicked” to silent
- Autofocus-Lock button is programmable
- Eleven rounded dimmer sheets for bokeh
- The front element is treated to repel water and oil
- The brass bayonet is weatherproof, robust and accurate
