Sony A7 V - a new generation of hybrid body for the photographer who wants no limits

Sony continues the evolution of its popular A7 series with an impressive leap forward. The A7 V is not just an incremental update, but a clear rethinking of what a versatile system camera can offer. A new generation of sensors, a smarter processor and highly refined shooting features make the body a tool that feels as at home in professional productions as it does in the backpack of the passionate hobbyist.

Sony describes the model with the phrase ”Professional Edge, within your reach” - and it's apt. The A7 V brings many of the solutions familiar from the A1 and A9 series into a much more affordable price range, without compromising on performance.

New 33 Mp sensor - speed without darkening the viewfinder image

At the heart of the A7 V is the all-new 33-megapixel Exmor RS sensor, which is partly stacked. It's the same thinking found in premium high-end bodies - now harnessed in a body that shouldn't be limited by its price. The stacked construction makes the sensor fast: read speed is improved, dynamics are increased and the rolling shutter effect is significantly reduced.
Thanks to the new sensor:

Speed is one of the biggest surprises of the A7 V. The mechanical shutter can reach 10 frames per second, but the electronic shutter opens up a whole new world: up to 30 frames per second at full 14-bit quality.

There's also Pre-Capture, where the camera records 0.3-1 second of images even before you press the shutter button. In practice, the highlights - a dog jumping, a golf shot or a bird on its wing in a perfect arc - are captured even if your finger reacts a little too late.

In addition, the A7 V takes advantage of the Speed Boost concept from the A9 III series: depending on the situation, the burst speed can be increased to maximum speed momentarily, allowing you to better control the amount of shots and buffer usage.

Powerful image stabilisation and Composite RAW

The A7 V's internal 5-axis stabilizer has received a significant upgrade. The CIPA standard power is now 7.5 apertures and 6.5 apertures at the edges. The improvement is particularly noticeable with telephoto lenses and when shooting in low light - handheld shooting becomes much more relaxed.

In addition, Sony offers Composite RAW mode, where multiple consecutive exposures can be captured on camera and composited using Sony's Imaging Edge software:

According to CIPA measurements, you get around 630 shots through the viewfinder and around 750 shots on the rear screen, but in real-life shooting situations the numbers are often higher. The new Bionz XR2 processor is more energy-efficient and generates less heat, and the body has two internal heat sinks like the A1 II, which improves reliability, especially for long 4K video shooting.

The 4-axis vari-angle display also adapts the interface to vertical images, so shooting settings and information remain easy to read. The grip has been redesigned for a sturdier, more stable grip, and a full-size HDMI Type A interface is a welcome addition for videographers.

The Sony A7 V includes two USB-C ports. Port 1 is high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) for data transfer and the second port is optimised for power. Both support USB PD power supplies, and a minimum 18W power supply is recommended.
