This ultra telephoto lens for the Nikon Z full-frame mirrorless camera is the same size as traditional 100-400mm zoom lenses, but the 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 covers the standard 50mm lens and extends all the way to 400mm at the end of the ultra telephoto lens, offering unrivalled versatility compared to a traditional 100-400mm zoom.

The lens has an improved construction and a remarkably compact design, measuring just 185.8 mm in length and weighing a lightweight 1 180 g. It has a moisture-resistant construction to ensure use even in harsh weather conditions, and the front surface of the lens element is coated with a water- and oil-repellent fluorine compound. The coating makes the lens surface easier to wipe clean and less susceptible to the damaging effects of dirt, dust, moisture and fingerprints.

The superior optical design, consisting of 24 elements in 18 groups of 2 XLD, 3 LD and 2 aspherical lens elements, delivers outstanding image quality throughout the 50-400 mm zoom range.

Users can also enjoy half-macro photography with an MOD of 0.25 m and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2 at a 50 mm zoom setting.

The lens is equipped with Tamron's proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, which effectively reduces camera shake, especially when shooting at telephoto focal lengths or in low light. In addition, the lens uses artificial intelligence algorithms to automatically select the optimal VC settings for video shooting at focal lengths of up to 100mm. The autofocus system is driven by a VXD linear motor that provides fast and accurate focusing throughout the zoom range.

The autofocus is fast and accurate, using the well-known VXD linear motor focusing mechanism. This advanced AF mechanism combines speed and accuracy, allowing fast and accurate focus tracking throughout the zoom range.

Firmware can be updated via a waterproof interface port, and the lens is compatible with Tamrons Lens Utility software, which allows the user to customize the lens with unique features such as focus limiter, A-B focus and focus presets.
