The optical structure consists of fifteen elements in ten groups. The LD special elements produce a contrasty and colour-saturated image without optical errors. Tamron's BBAR coatings effectively fight reflections and ensure excellent optical performance.

The lens is weatherproofed against dust and moisture, providing extra protection in harsher conditions. The high-speed RXD stepper motor provides smooth and fast autofocus in both video and stills.
