Parabolic softboxes are the best thing you can put in your light to soften it, in some applications the Elinchrom Rotalux Deep Octabox 100cm may take up too much space but if that's not an obstacle, this is your choice. Softboxes are often used in portraits, because of their soft footprint and the beautiful contrast they bring to the face. You can limit the light with a honeycomb cell, which you can buy separately, and soften it with the included diffusion screens.

Elinchrome's softboxes are of excellent quality and are almost high-end without being expensive. They are very lightweight and can withstand indoor and outdoor gigging. This box is known for its versatility and superior construction. The box has a large surface area and surrounds the subject beautifully, which is why it is very popular with portrait photographers and people in the fashion industry. It is great for upper body shots, the unique shape of the octabox makes the eyes look like natural looking catchlights. The softar has removable inner and outer diffusers, which are optional and you can mix and match as you like. With these you get reduced hotspots, or increased contrast.

Optional deflectors reflect the light to the back of the octabox, removing the hotspot and further softening the light. A separately purchased hooded diffuser helps limit light leakage, while a separately purchased fabric grille limits the light beam and virtually kills light leakage. For the converter, you need to separately select a speedring to catch the light, either to the Elinca products themselves or to the light of another system.
